WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- Welcoming in the Nova Southeastern University women’s basketball team on Thanksgiving’s eve, the Palm Beach Atlantic University Sailfish struggled in the second half on their way to a 82-62 defeat at the hands of the Sharks on Wednesday evening at the Rubin Arena.
Trailing by only six points at the break (33-27), the Fish struggled in the second half with ball-handling consistency which in turn developed into a total of 18 turnovers for the game compared to that of 12 for NSU.
Both teams shot well from beyond the arc as PBA was successful on 7-13 tries while the Sharks buried the long-range shots at a 50% clip (9-18).
Leading the Sailfish on the offensive end for the game were sophomores Ashley Adkins and Melissa Perez who totaled 17 and 11 points respectively. Perez also dished out a team-high five assists. Also reaching double-figures on the night for the Fish was junior Sitara Richard who tallied 11 points on 4-8 shooting including a 3-4 mark from beyond the arc.
Sophomore Brooke Burgess, a newcomer to this year’s Sailfish squad via transfer, tallied seven points and 10 rebounds while also adding in two blocks.
On the Sharks side, four players reached double-digits in points, highlighted by a 17 point performance by Amber Bishko who did her damage on a solid 7-9 from the floor. Following up Bishko’s team-leading total were Eliza Allen with 13 points, Ashley Wilson with 12 points, and LaShawnna Edwards with 10 points.
The victory improves NSU to 1-2 on the season while PBA drops to 1-3.
The Fish don’t have long to rest as they will be traveling to St. Augustine, Florida on Friday and Saturday, November 23rd and 24th, to take part in the Eckerd College Tournament. The blue and white will open up play on Friday with a bout with Eckerd at 3:00 p.m. before turning around and facing Minnesota State-Mankato at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
