KISSIMEE, Fla. – The No. 4 Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish had their game clicking on Wednesday night, topping No. 5 Bethel College 3-0 in the opening round of the NCCAA National Tournament.
With the victory, PBA now plays No. 1 Fresno Pacific Thursday night at 7:30 pm. The winner is set to move on to the NCCAA National Championship on Saturday.
The NCAA DII leading goal and point scorer, Kenny Hogg, put the Sailfish on the board first with an assist from fellow junior Evan Singlar. Singlar leads the team in assists in 2012 with 14.
Palm Beach Atlantic had control of the game with the 1-0 lead going into the half, but used a pair of goals in the second half to put the game away.
Cameron Roberts scored the fourth goal in his freshman campaign to make it 2-0. The assist came from Hogg, who now has 62 total points on the season (which leads all of NCAA DII).
Senior Charlie Hubbard wrapped up the scoring later in the second half off an assist from Kevin Ireland. The goal was Hubbard’s fifth of the season, while Ireland now has six assists.
The PBA defense was sparkling all night, with Lewis Thompson anchoring the back line and Austin Spagnola in goal. Spagnola gets credit for his third shutout of the season, while the goose egg marks the ninth overall shutout for the defense.
