SKILLMAN, N.J.- Although their first spring match is still a few months away the Palm Beach Atlantic women’s tennis team has much to be excited about as it pertains to their upcoming 2013 season. The expectations should be high for head coach Chi Ly and his squad as they were ranked No. 27 by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) in the NCAA Division II preseason team rankings.
Armstrong Atlantic State University leads the ranking followed by BYU-Hawaii and Abilene Christian University rounding out the top three.
The NCAA South Region is well represented as always with the Sailfish joining nine other women’s programs from the South Region in the top-27. Lynn University sits at No. 4 nationally followed right behind by Barry University at No. 5.
The Sailfish return nearly a full roster from last season’s team that claimed their second National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) National Championship.
PBA is expected to be led by sophomore Veena Vasquez who earned a No. 13-individual ranking in the South Region as she played No. 1-singles as a true freshman last season.
Other key contributors from last season’s lineup include seniors Victoria Baca and Natalia Trotter as the Sailfish will look to continue making their mark as a competitive program in arguably the toughest region in the country.
