WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish continued their trek to the National Christian College Athletic Association national tournament with a convincing 5-0 win over Emmanuel College in the South Region Semi-final on Thursday afternoon.
Junior Evan Singlar once again provided the spark for the Sailfish, netting his seventh goal of the campaign in the 26th minute. Just four minutes later it was Singlar who set up freshman Cameron Roberts for PBA’s second goal. Evan now has six points (two goals, two assists) in two NCCAA regional matches.
PBA went into halftime with a 2-0 lead and led Emmanuel in shots 10-1, shots on goal 4-1, and corners 7-0.
The second half was all Palm Beach Atlantic, with sophomore Melo Matutu knocking in his fourth goal of the year off a beautiful assist from Kevin Ireland. Just five minutes later, freshman Andy Garcia scored his third goal of the year off an assist from AJ Black to make it 4-0 Sailfish.
To cap off the scoring in the 88th minute, Austin Spagnola sent a goal kick down the field that caught a speeding Roberts in stride. The freshman lobbed the shot over the keeper and got his second goal of the day to make it 5-0.
PBA dominated the overall game stats, taking more shots, 24-5, shots on goal, 9-1, and corner kicks 15-0. Spagnola had one save on the day and gets credit for the shutout. He now has two on the year to go along with a perfect 5-0 record.
The Sailfish play for a birth in the NCCAA National Tournament this Saturday at 10:30 A.M. against Southern Wesleyan University at Magic Jack Field.
