AVE MARIA, Fla.- The Palm Beach Atlantic University women’s soccer team closed out regular season play on Friday evening with a trip to Ave Maria (Fla.) University. The Sailfish had little trouble in defeating the Gyrenes as they posted two goals in the first-half and then added on four more scores as PBA exited AMU’s North Park with their 11th victory of the season.
Freshman Sienna Brooks got the Fish on the scoreboard in the 18th minute when she sprinted through the middle of the field, surprising the AMU backline before putting home her fourth goal of the season past the goalkeeper.
Another first-year player, Carson Mitchell, posted the second goal of the half just before halftime as she received a pass from Karoline Harnes before moving to the 18-yard box and delivering a strike for a 2-0 PBA lead.
The second period featured more opportunities for the Fish as they pushed a 2-0 lead at the break into a blowout win in the second-half.
Senior Martha Taboas tallied her first of two goals on the night in the 53rd minute on a swift cross from senior Ashley Shoaf for a 3-0 lead.
Under 10 minutes later, a Gyrenes foul in the box called for a PBA penalty kick. Sophomore defender Margaret Stewart was called upon and quickly provided a strong kick into the upper 90 for a 4-0 lead.
Taboas and Brooks each added their second scores of the night down the stretch to claim an easy victory.
Junior Allison Fox posted her eighth shutout of the season as PBA outshot AMU 18-1 for the match.
