WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- In what could be a sign of things to come, Palm Beach Atlantic junior men’s soccer player Kenny Hogg has earned his first postseason award as announced on Thursday afternoon. Settled in as the nation’s top goal scorer within the NCAA Division II ranks, Hogg was selected to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-District Team for District 5 as named by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
While his on-field play has been impressive enough with 25 scores in only 16 matches, Hogg was awarded his spot on the Academic All-District Team thanks to his good work in the classroom.
The 12-member team was released Thursday afternoon. To be nominated for the award, student-athletes must have maintained at least a 3.30 grade point average, been enrolled at the University for at least one year and been either a starter or significant contributor on the field.
The team voted on by the South Region Sports Information Directors which makes up the Sunshine State Conference (SSC), Gulf South Conference (GSC) and the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association (SIAC).
A native of Irvine, Scotland, Hogg currently holds a 3.37 grade-point average while majoring in Mathematics.
Hogg has followed his impressive first season with PBA last year with an even more dominant season as a junior in 2012. Last season he collected a nation’s best 23 goals while also leading the country in total points with 48. This season he already has put home 25 goals in the back of the net to go with two assists for a nation-leading 52 points.
He currently leads the NCAA Division II ranks in four statistical categories (total goals, goals per game, total points and points per game).
Because he was named to the All-District Team, Hogg is now eligible to be selected to the Capital One Academic All-American Team to be announced later.
