LAKE WALES, Fla.- Although a bit cooler temperatures than the average South Florida evening, the Palm Beach Atlantic and Warner University hit the field on Tuesday as the season winds to a close. A pair of PBA goals in the second-half proved to be enough as the Sailfish spoiled the Royal’s senior night with a 2-0 win. The victory gives PBA seven shutouts on the season while improving their overall record to 10-4-1.
After being limited to just one shot in the first-half, the Sailfish would make the necessary adjustments at halftime to put 12 shots against the Warner defense in the second 45 minutes on their way to victory.
The first 70 minutes of the contest would be scoreless but a goal from freshman Kasey Wyer on an assist from senior Ashley Shoaf got PBA on the board in the 71st minute for a 1-0 lead.
Another score 11 minutes later by Tori Landron gave the Fish the insurance they needed as Elizabeth Gonzalez assisted on the goal.
“A cold but great night for soccer was a good test for us in putting us in a few different positions and formations in order to allow us to become versatile late in the season,” said head coach James Kryger.
“Warner played their hearts out on senior night and credit their players for working extremely hard the whole 90 minutes. It produced a true playoff feeling game tempo.”
Allison Fox gave the Fish another solid performance in goal as the junior goalkeeper tallied two saves in posting her seventh shutout of the year.
In total, Palm Beach Atlantic led the shots count with a 13-4 showing while also adding in a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks.
PBA will wrap up their regular season slate with a road trip to Ave Maria University on Friday, November 1st at 7 pm.
