JECKYL ISLAND, Ga.- It was a busy stretch however the Sailfish women’s soccer team not only survived, but thrived. The Fish came away with their third win of a season-long road trip over Fall Break by defeating Chowan (N.C.) University on Sunday afternoon in a neutral site match in Jeckyl Island, Georgia. The 5-0 win pushes Palm Beach Atlantic’s season record to 9-4-1 as they hit the home stretch of the regular season.

Official statistics will be released as they become available but five Sailfish goals including three in the second-half led the Fish to another key NCAA regional victory. PBA continues to mount its case as an Independent in the always-competitive NCAA South Region for consideration for a possible at-large berth in the NCAA Tournament.

The first-half on Sunday witnessed the Fish tally two goals. The first came from senior Martha Taboas in the 15th minute as she received a Karoline Harnes pass and then connected from 15-yards out.

Approximately five minutes later it would be Elizabeth Gonzalez whose header would give the Fish a 2-0 lead on a helper from freshman Kasey Wyer.

A total of 19 shots would take place for PBA in the first-half with the Sailfish settling for a 2-0 lead.

Shots would be aplenty again for the second 45 minutes as the Fish produced 16 more in the win.

A second header from Gonzalez would net the team’s third goal just 10 minutes into the second-half as senior Juliet Waller provided the assist. A header from freshman Carson Mitchell would soon follow as the Blue and White pushed their advantage to 4-0 as Wyer notched another assist.

Freshman Tori Landron would close out the scoring with a penalty kick goal just before the final horn sounded.

PBA dominated possession throughout as they tallied 11 corner kicks to go along with their 35 shots.

Junior goalkeeper Allison Fox posted her sixth shutout of the season in goal as she faced only five Chowan shots for the match.

PBA will take on Warner University in Lake Wales, Florida on Tuesday, October 30th at 7 pm.
