WILSON, N.C.- A goal in the first five minutes would be all the Sailfish women’s soccer team would need on Thursday as they began a busy stretch of action away from home. Taking part in a six match swing in just over a week’s time, the Sailfish made an early goal by sophomore Moriah Zusi stand up on Thursday evening as they held on for a 1-0 win over Barton College.
Zusi’s score, which was her second in as many matches, lifted her team to an early lead over the Bulldogs (4-11-0) who would be held in check all night by the Sailfish (8-4-0) defense.
Tallying only one shot in each half, the Bulldogs were outshot 9-2 for the match while seeing the Sailfish collect ten corner kick opportunities on the night.
After a failed clearance, the Sailfish would take advantage as Zusi blasted home the game-winner at the 5:39 minute mark of the first-half.
The PBA defense which featured full game performances by Margaret Stewart, Andrea Jefferson and Karoline Harnes backed up junior goalkeeper Allison Fox who posted her fifth shutout of the season.
The Fish will move on next to take on Georgia Southwestern University in Americus, Georgia with a 1:30 kickoff time on Saturday, October 27th.
