MELBOURNE, Fla. – The No. 10 Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish suffered their second loss of the season at the hands of the Florida Tech Panthers by a score of 2-1 on Tuesday afternoon.
The Panthers got out to an early 1-0 lead, scoring just one minute into the match. The Sailfish had to battle their way back all game, but were finally able to strike in the second half.
After losing a man just ten minutes into the second period to a red card, PBA got the equalizer in the 71st minute from defender Chris Karafilov. The junior unleashed a shot from thirty yards out to tie the score at 1-1.
The game was chippy on both sides, with two yellow cards being issued to both sides on top of the PBA red card, and just three minutes after the Sailfish goal the game was decided on a free kick.
Florida Tech was granted a free kick off a Sailfish foul around thirty yards out from goal, and the Panthers executed a perfect set play, getting a header to find the back of the net , and giving the host team a 2-1 lead.
With Florida Tech already holding a man advantage, trying to sneak a goal in the last fifteen minutes proved too difficult for the PBA. The Sailfish return home with a 9-2 record.
Palm Beach Atlantic was outshot 7-1 in the first half and 15-7 overall, while the Panthers also held the edge in corner kicks with an 8-5 tally.
The Sailfish return to action at Magic Jack Field on Wednesday, October 17th against the No. 3 ranked Lynn Knights.
