GAINESVILLE, Fla. – No. 14 ranked Palm Beach Atlantic used a barrage of offense to earn a key in-region victory over West Alabama on Sunday afternoon, downing the Tigers 4-1 at Jonesville Field.
After the Tigers took an early lead, Freshman Andy Garcia scored his first career goal to knot it at 1-1. The play was orchestrated beautifully by the Sailfish, with Kenny Hogg beating a few defenders and setting Garcia up for the one-time strike.
With the end of the first half looming, PBA was able to add another goal to take the lead they would never relinquish. Kevin Ireland showed some fancy footwork to shake his defender then sent a cross in that AJ Black headed in on a dive. For Black, it was his fourth goal of the season.
The second half belonged to the Sailfish, as they dominated play through the remainder of the match. Hogg, the Irvine, Scotland native, scored his 16th and 17th goals of the season on penalty kicks. The junior leads all of NCAA Division II with 17 goals scored, and also leads in points per match (3.33) and goals per match (1.67).
The Sailfish have little time to celebrate their victory, as they travel up to Melbourne on Tuesday to play the Panthers of Florida Tech. The next home match is October 17th at 3 PM against one of the premier men's soccer programs in the nation, Lynn University.
