Kasey Wyer's Late Goal Lifts Sailfish to 2-1 Win Over West Alabama

GAINESVILLE, Fla.- The Palm Beach Atlantic women’s soccer team came away with a 2-1 win on Sunday afternoon as they traveled to play the University of West Alabama in a neutral site contest in Gainesville, Florida. The two NCAA South Region teams got together at Jonesville Park in a women’s and men’s double-header versus the UWA Tigers. Freshman Kasey Wyer delivered the game-winner in the 88th minute to send PBA home with a victory.

The Sailfish (6-2-0) would be the first to notch a goal on the scoreboard in the 13th minute of the the contest although they would receive some help from their counterpart.

Sophomore Karoline Harnes would send a cross into the box that would eventually be deflected into the goal by a UWA defender for a 1-0 PBA lead.

Just a minute and a half later the Tigers (6-5-2)  would capitalize for an equalizer as Natalie Perry found Lydia Sutcliffe for a score to tie the match at 1-1. Sutcliffe’s shot would be blocked initially by PBA goalkeeper Allison Fox but the ball would roll in despite the keeper’s best efforts.

After two goals in the first 14 minutes of the contest it would take until nearly the final horn for another goal to find the back of the net. 

Wyer would play the hero as she collected her first career goal when it mattered the most. Nearing the end of regulation still tied at 1-1, the Greer, South Carolina native dribbled around a Tigers defender after contact and put home the game-winning score.

After only three combined fouls in the first-half, things would get much more physical in the second 45 minutes as the teams combined for 13 fouls while combining for nine total shots.

UWA would hold the final edge in total shots with an 11-7 lead while PBA managed seven corner kicks to just two by the Tigers.

Fox earned the win in goal for PBA as she collected four saves while UWA’s goalkeeper, Jess Martin tallied four saves as well in the loss.

The Sailfish will be off from game action until Saturday, October 13th when they host the University of Tampa at Magic Jack Field. The two teams will kickoff at 12 pm.
