TITUSVILLE, Fla.- Seventy-five runners hit the Chain of Lakes Park cross country course on Friday as a total of seven collegiate teams competed in the FLRunners.com Invitational in Titusville, Florida. Placing two runners in the top-10 in seniors Faith Warren and Meghan Gilmore helped propel the Sailfish to a third-place finish as they hit the home stretch of the cross country season.
The University of Central Florida and Florida International University, both NCAA Division I programs, were the only teams to finish ahead of PBA in the team standings as the Fish posted a team score of 70 points.
Rollins College (89 points) followed Palm Beach Atlantic as did Stetson University (114 points), Florida College (152 points) and Warner University (197 points).
Warren paced all PBA runners with a strong showing of 19:06 in the women’s 5K to finish fourth individually while Gilmore came in eighth at 19:28. Fellow senior Katherine Harvey was just behind Gilmore as she nearly cracked the top-10 with a time of 19:33 for an 11th place finish.
Sophomores Kourtney Sumner and Jessica Sexton were next in line with finishing times of 20:25 and 21:18, good for 27th and 39th respectively. Next in line for the Sailfish was Sarah Walsh with a time of 23:35 to finish 50th while Morgan Skwira finished next at 51st with a time of 23:43.
The race was won by UCF runner Ann-Marie Blaney with a time of 17:52, which placed her nearly 35 seconds ahead of runner-up Lauren Falcone from Rollins.
The Sailfish will have one remaining race left for the regular season as they will compete in the Black and Gold Challenge in Orlando, Florida on October 12th at 8 am.
