MISENHEIMER, N.C. – The steady rain falling on the pitch in North Carolina couldn’t keep the Sailfish from continuing their torrid start to the season, with Kenny Hogg leading Palm Beach Atlantic to a convincing 4-1 victory over Pfeiffer University on Sunday afternoon and making PBA a perfect 6-0 on the season.
Hogg got the scoring started early once again, converting on a beautiful touch pass from Evan Singlar just under four minutes into the game. It was Kenny’s nation-leading 12th goal of the season, but he was just getting started.
In the 34th minute, AJ Black delivered a corner that dropped perfectly to the boot of Hogg, who drilled a shot into the back of the net to make it 2-0 Sailfish.
After halftime, Pfeiffer cut into the PBA lead and made it 2-1. Just eight minutes after the Falcons scored their lone goal, Hogg converted on a penalty kick to regain the two goal lead. Hogg has now scored a goal in every game this season and has the most scored in NCAA DII with 14.
In case the Sailfish needed any insurance, Kevin Ireland provided it with his first goal of the season in the 85th minute. James Kaim set up the final strike after setting off on a quick break, sending in a long cross from the right, and finding Ireland, who knocked it to the left post for the goal.
Though the team’s perfect record after six matches is impressive, it’s Hogg who continues to wow opposing teams and spectators alike. After notching his third hat trick on the season, he now positions himself over half way to his 2011 total of 24 goals (which also led the nation).
The Sailfish look to remain perfect on the season on Wednesday when they travel to South Florida rival Nova Southeastern to take on the Sharks at 6 PM.
