Cross Country Competes Against Tough Field at Mountain Dew Invitational

GAINESVILLE, Fla.- The Palm Beach Atlantic University women’s cross country team competed in their third race in as many weeks on Saturday when they took on their toughest field of teams to date. A total of 18 women’s teams and over 150 runners took to the Mountain Dew Invitational hosted by the University of Florida at the UF Golf Course.
The Sailfish would come away with another solid performance overall as they competed against NCAA Division I teams as well as Division II and NAIA programs.
PBA finished 10th as a team with seniors Faith Warren and Katherine Harvey each finishing in the top-50 of individual competitors.
The host Gators would tally the team championship with a total of 15 points as they also saw their own first five runners cross the finish line first in the women’s 5,000 meter race.
UF junior Agata Strasua earned the individual medalist honor with an impressive time of 17:13 while her four teammates rounded out the top five, all with times under 18 minutes.
Rounding out the top five of team competitors was the University of North Florida (63 points), the University of Central Florida (116 points), University of Tampa (129 points) and Florida Gulf Coast University (199 points).
Palm Beach Atlantic finished with 279 points as Warren concluded as the team’s top runner at 33rd with a time of 19:16 while Harvey managed a solid time of 19:43 to finish 49th.
Other PBA runners included Meghan Gilmore right behind Harvey in 53rd place with a time of 19:45 while sophomore Kourtney Sumner finished with a time of 20:37 for 89th place.
Jessica Sexton gave the team a fifth runner in the top-100 with a time of 20:58 in 98th place while Morgan Skwira (23:26) and Sarah Walsh (23:49) closed out the team’s competitors on Saturday morning.
The team will be off until September 28th when they travel to Titusville, Florida for the FLRunners.com Invitational.
