CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Palm Beach Atlantic kept its winning ways rolling on Friday night thanks to tallies from Kenny Hogg and AJ Black, topping the Queens University Royals by a score of 2-1 in Charlotte, North Carolina.
The Sailfish jumped out to an early lead with Hogg converting on a penalty kick just 36 seconds into the match. For Kenny, it was his NCAA Division II-leading eleventh goal of the 2012 campaign.
With a slim lead, it took nearly 30 minutes until PBA could find the net again. That's when Black netted his second goal of the season in the 32nd minute off a rebound to give the Fish a 2-0 lead over the Royals.
Just when the visitors grabbed a bit of breathing room, the host Royals got back into the game thanks to a goal just three minutes later. Even though the rest of the match would play at a hectic pace with both teams getting multiple chances to score, PBA was able to come out victorious to remain a perfect 5-0.
Palm Beach Atlantic was able to overcome a multitude of issues throughout the course of the game to bring home the victory. Not only did the Royals put more shots on goal (8-5), but they also took more corners (10-4) and were able to draw the Sailfish offsides 13 times. At the end of the night, it was strong play from the defense that provided for the victory.
The defensive corps of Branden Langenberg, Tyler Sanders, Lewis Thompson and Chris Karafilov helped aid Senior keeper Jonathan Strunk in the victory, with each defender playing the full ninety minutes. Strunk allowed just his second goal this season while recording a season-high seven saves.
It’s a quick turnaround for the Sailfish, as they return to action against the Pfeiffer University Falcons on Sunday at 1:00 pm EST. The match will take place in Charlotte, North Carolina, and you can follow the match via live stats provided by host Queens University.
