WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- Palm Beach Atlantic head baseball coach Kent Bottenfield announced on Thursday the addition of South Florida native Jon Musillo as the program’s new full-time assistant coach. Musillo comes to PBA from Barry University where he spent the past three seasons as an assistant coach with the Buccaneers while working specifically in the areas of recruiting and with the hitters.
Beginning his tenure with the Sailfish is somewhat of a homecoming for Musillo who is originally from nearby Jupiter, Florida.
He graduated from Jupiter High School before moving on to a collegiate playing career that concluded with him being named an All-Conference shortstop at Faulkner University in Montgomery, Alabama.
Musillo’s coaching career began following his graduation at Faulkner with a stint at Central Alabama Community College (2007-08) before moving back to South Florida. He would then spend the next few years as an assistant varsity coach at Coral Springs Charter High School before landing with Barry before the start of the 2010 season.
While coaching with the Bucs, Musillo was responsible for much of the offensive philosophy employed by the team while also working with the infielders and catchers on the defensive side. He also assisted head coach Marc Pavao with recruiting and camps.
Musillo is expected to fill a similar role with the Sailfish this season under Bottenfield who begins his first full season as the head coach at PBA following his mid-season promotion last year. Bottenfield served as the Associate Head Coach up until the passing of former head coach and MLB Hall-of-Famer, Gary Carter in February.
Jon is married to wife, Jineth with the couple having a new daughter, Sophia, born in July.
