BOCA RATON, FLA. – Palm Beach Atlantic remains perfect on the season thanks to a dominating 4-0 victory over Anderson (S.C.) in a weather-delayed match to kick off the Wyndham Boca Raton Soccer Classic at Lynn University.
The Sailfish throttled the Trojans in the first half, jumping to an early lead thanks to a beautiful feed from Kevin Ireland to Cameron Roberts, who sent the one-timer into net for his first goal of the season.
Six minutes later, Kenny Hogg added his sixth goal of the season from another beautiful feed from Ireland. Hogg beat the keeper one-on-one after Ireland lobbed a pass over the defense, and the Sailfish never looked back.
With storm clouds looming over McCusker field, PBA got the back-breaker from Hogg on a penalty kick. The goal was Hogg’s seventh in the first three games.
Just before the first lightning delay, AJ Black stole the ball from a defender and chipped a shot over the keeper for the fourth goal of the contest. As the post-goal celebration ensued, the referees called both teams off the field because of lightning.
After an hour and a half delay, both squads returned to the field only to be removed once again because of lightning. Twenty minutes later the action continued, and PBA ground out the remaining clock for the win.
Keeper Jonathan Strunk notched his second shutout of the season, stopping all four shots sent his way. The Fish outshot the Trojans 19-9 for the game and 8-4 in shots on goal.
