PENSACOLA, Fla.- The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) announced their Division II All-Region listing on Friday afternoon with Palm Beach Atlantic senior Travis Murray named Honorable Mention. A Spring Hill, Florida native and having just completed his second and final year with the Palm Beach Atlantic baseball team, Murray came through with a memorable campaign in which he led the team in hitting as the team’s starting catcher.
A second-year player from Pasco-Hernando Community College, Murray started 43 of the team’s 44 games while performing regularly as the No. 4-hitter in the lineup in addition to his duties as the team’s starting catcher.
Murray finished with a team-best .390 batting average with 60 hits including 13 doubles to lead the team. He also managed solid totals in runs (26), runs batted in (21) and walks (14).
His season started with a bang as he produced the game-winning single in PBA’s dramatic, walk-off victory over rival Lynn University on opening night at Roger Dean Stadium.
He would go on to produce a five hit game versus St. Thomas University and a six-hit game against Lynn later on the season that would prove to be highlights of a solid season by the Sailfish backstop.
The NCBWA enlists a preseason and postseason All-Region team each season while also providing in-season accolades with regional and national pitcher and player of the week accolades.
The NCBWA also produces in-season regional and national polls each week throughout the season that are voted on by NCBWA members.
Lynn University senior Anthony Boza was crowned the South Region Player of the Year while Pitcher of the Year went to the University of North Alabama’s Chad Boughner. Coach of the Year was earned by Mike Kinnison of Delta State University.
