SKILLMAN, N.J.- The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced their regional and national postseason award winners on Wednesday with a pair of Palm Beach Atlantic women’s tennis players selected as honorees. Senior Leydi Zora was named the ITA South Region Senior Player of the Year while junior Natalia Trotter was chosen as the recipient of the Arthur Ashe Leadership and Sportsmanship Award.
Zora wrapped up her collegiate eligibility this season as a graduate student following her previous career at Tennessee Tech University. An MBA student, Zora is a native of Columbia.
She performed very well for head coach Chi Ly during 2012 while sitting consistently at No. 1-doubles with Veena Vasquez and No. 3-singles as well.
Trotter continues to impress out of Guadalajara, Mexico as a junior and third-year performer. Her recognition as the winner of the Arthur Ashe Leadership and Sportsmanship Award speaks to her abilities as a well-rounded student-athlete.
She settled in as a solid No. 4-singles player this season while also contributing regularly as a member of the No. 2-doubles tandem alongside teammate Victoria Baca.
The ITA/Arthur Ashe Leadership and Sportsmanship Award recognizes outstanding individuals in all divisions at the regional and national level. In August the national winners are honored during a special ceremony hosted by the USTA during Arthur Ashe Kids' Day inside Ashe Stadium. This award which dates back to 1982, goes to NCAA Divisions I, II and III, NAIA and Junior College men's and women's players who have exhibited outstanding sportsmanship and leadership as well as scholastic, extracurricular and tennis achievements.
