STARKVILLE, Miss.- The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) announced their 2012 All-Region teams on Thursday with 204 student-athletes from 89 institutions spread out over eight NFCA regions, with a first and second team for each region. One of the selections was Palm Beach Atlantic junior second-baseman Lisa Santos who was named to the All-Region second-team.

Santos selection to the NFCA All-Region second-team marks the first time a Sailfish player has been chosen to the listing in the NCAA-era of PBA softball.

Playing her first season with the team in 2012 following one-season stints at Northwood University and Monroe Community College, Santos shined as the team’s starting second-baseman and typical No. 3-hitter in the lineup.

Santos finished as the team’s leading hitter with a .366 batting average in 45 games while adding in solid totals of 49 hits, 31 runs driven in, 19 runs scored, eight doubles and two homeruns.

As a defender, the Rochester, New York native made only six errors while adjusting to a new position as a second-baseman.

No. 22-ranked University of Alabama-Huntsville led the nation with six All-Region selections, placing five players on the first-team and one on the second-team. Following closely behind the Chargers was top-ranked Valdosta State University, which had a total of five all-region selections.  All five of the Blazers selections were named to the first team, which tied Alabama-Huntsville for the most first-team choices.  The two teams combined to account for 10 of the 12 first-team spot in the south region.

NFCA member coaches in each of the eight regions selected this year’s All-Region teams and all honorees are now eligible to be selected to one of three All-American teams.

The 2012 NFCA Division II All-American teams will be announced on on the evening of Wednesday, May 16
