Winter Park, Fla.- Despite their best efforts, the Palm Beach Atlantic University women’s soccer team was unable to avoid dropping their third straight decision on Tuesday evening as they stumbled against Rollins College by a final score of 3-1.
Stuck in an offensive drought, the Sailfish were unable to hold back the Tars early as the Rollins College attack was able to jump out to a 3-0 advantage before the Fish were able to put one in the back of the net late to break up the shutout.
Chelsea Brady got things started for the Tars when she struck for the first goal of the evening in the 11th minute off a pass from Leah Hirsch deep in the box. The goal marked Brady’s sixth score of the season as the Tars produced many scoring opportunities throughout the match.
Tallying 22 shots compared to that of nine by the Sailfish, the Tars would strike again in the 28th minute as Nikki Stutz delivered a goal off a solid corner kick pass from Jessica Deese. Deese would once again provide assistance in the second half as she sent a through ball to Tar’s teammate Jeri Ostuw who proceeded to race past the Sailfish defenders and notch the third and final score for RC.
Three minutes after the goal by Ostuw, the Sailfish would break through for a goal of their own when an Angie Kuhn shot would be rebounded and taken advantage by junior Jessica Rodriguez to cap the scoring at 3-1 in favor of the Tars.
With the victory, Rollins improves to 8-7-1 while Palm Beach Atlantic falls to 4-7-1 on the season. Sophomore goalkeeper Ashley Morrell once again provided the Fish with some relief by registering seven saves in between the pipes.
With an upcoming two-game road trip, the Sailfish don’t have long to dwell on the loss as they will be traveling to Murfreesboro, North Carolina to take on Chowan College on Thursday, October 25th, followed by a date with Trinity University on Friday in Washington D.C. The game versus Chowan is scheduled for a 4:00 p.m. start time while the matchup versus Trinity is slated for a 2:30 kickoff.
