MIAMI SHORES, Fla.- The Palm Beach Atlantic University baseball team ran into a buzzsaw named Kevin Youst on Friday night at Feinbloom Field as the tall Buccaneers right-hander went for a complete-game shutout and the Bucs knocked off the Fish by a final score of 7-0. Youst was superb as he allowed only six hits and struck out six in a 140 plus pitch effort as he outdueled Sailfish ace Logan Thomas.
Neither pitcher proved truly efficient as Thomas (5-4) topped the 100-pitch mark after five innings as was lifted after allowing seven hits, four walks and three runs.
Barry (20-20) pushed across a pair of runs in the first inning Bryant Elliott delivered a RBI single while a groundout later in the frame gave the Bucs an early 2-0 lead.
Things would remain 2-0 until the bottom of the fourth inning as Barry added another insurance run thanks to another Elliott RBI hit. Another run came in to score in the sixth inning off PBA reliever Andres Lopez as Adrian English provided a sacrifice-fly.
BU capped the night with three runs in the eighth inning off Kenny Frosch and Robbie Pettet in relief.
The Sailfish closed out the game with six hits a 2-for-4 performance by senior catcher Travis Murray.
Michael Slabach finished 4-for-5 to lead the BU offense while Elliott was 2-for-3 with two runs batted in and two walks.
The two teams will conclude the series with a pair of games on Saturday beginning at 12 pm.
