West Palm Beach, Fla.- With just under fifteen minutes to play, the Barry University women’s soccer team squeaked a kick past Palm Beach Atlantic University goalkeeper Ashley Morrell and took home a 1-0 victory on a rain-soaked Wednesday evening at Lantana Field.
Steph Day notched the Buccaneers lone goal on the evening in the 75th minute as the BU defense held strong down the stretch en route to keeper Kelly Tryson posting the shutout to improve her record to 2-2-0 on the season. Overall, Barry improves to 3-4-0 while the Sailfish dropped their fourth straight game after a 3-0 start to the season.
Perhaps the best scoring opportunity for PBA came in the first half when sophomore Caitlin Ross (Neptune Beach, Fla./Fletcher HS) connected on back-to-back shots that came firmly off the goal post, preventing the Fish from scoring each time. A third shot later in the game by junior Brandi Bianco (Palm Harbor, Fla./Tarpon Springs HS) also found its way to the post as the Sailfish were once again denied the score.
Freshman Angie Kuhn (North Ft. Myers, Fla./Bishop Verot HS) returned to the Sailfish lineup off the bench after being sidelined with an ankle injury for the past few games.
Sophomore goalkeeper Ashley Morrell (Lake Worth, Fla./Park Vista HS) recorded four saves on the night as she continued to play well for head coach Dwayne Whiteheart between the pipes.
The next opponent for the PBA women’s team comes at the hands of the University of Tampa which they will take on Thursday, October 4th at 7:00 p.m.
