WINTER PARK, Fla.- Even though not a single Rollins College player would tally double-figures in scoring on Wednesday evening at the Warden Arena, the No. 11-ranked Tars women’s basketball team would find enough in the tank to knock off Palm Beach Atlantic by a 67-48 final score. Sailfish senior forward Selethia Jackson went for team-high totals of 18 points and 10 rebounds in the loss.
The Tars earned their 18th win in their 21st ballgame of the season on Wednesday evening as they utilized their patented balanced-scoring routine. Coming into the game with just one player averaging over 8.4 points per game in guard Ashley Jones (12 ppg), the Tars tend to wear down their opponent with their depth.
A quick start by Rollins saw them jump ahead early as they led 5-0 on a 3-pointer from Tera McDaniel and then two free-throws by Jasmine Cohen.
From there the Fish would go to work and draw as close as two points on two different occasions in the first-half, most recently on a jumper from junior Ashley Dolberry with 11:34 to play in the half as her bucket put the score at 13-11.
From that point it would be mostly Tars the rest of the half as they built up their advantage to as many as 13 points and settled for a 33-23 halftime lead as neither team scored in the final two minutes of play.
Unfortunately for the Fish they would never be able to cut the deficit under a double-figures lead as RC pushed their advantage to as many as 24 points before settling for the 19-point victory.
Following Jackson’s total was 15 points and seven rebounds from Dolberry while senior Jordan Kong chipped in with 12 points on a 5-of-16 shooting night.
Jackson aided the PBA defense with five blocks and a pair of steals while playing 38 minutes.
The Fish will return to play on Saturday, February 11th when they travel to St. Petersburg, Florida for a 2pm tipoff with Eckerd College.
