WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- A total of eight players would collect at least six points for Barry University on Wednesday evening as the Buccaneers held off a second-half Palm Beach Atlantic offensive charge to claim a 65-50 win at the Rubin Arena. The Sailfish would start slow on the night and could never recover as BU led early and then sustained a double-digit lead throughout the NCAA South Region matchup.
The strong inside play of BU’s front-court tandem of Alexandria Zamora and Brooke Keeton would prove to be very effective for Barry (4-3) as they tallied a 30-16 advantage in the paint over Palm Beach Atlantic (4-6).
Zamora finished with team-high scoring honors of 12 points on 4-of-5 shooting while Keeton was a perfect 4-of-4 off the bench for eight points in just 12 minutes of court time.
After a tough shooting night in their last contest on Monday at Lynn University, some of those shooting woes would carry over to Wednesday’s matchup with the Bucs as PBA trailed 15-3 with 10:37 remaining in the first-half following a Yvonne Houston 3-pointer.
The BU lead would shrink back to a more manageable seven point deficit as Sailfish senior Jordan Kong buried a 3-pointer of her own with 7:10 remaining to put the score at 19-12.
The lead would remain between 8-12 points the remainder of the half as BU entered the lockeroom leading PBA 28-19. The Bucs connected on 34.4 percent (11-32) of their first-half shots while the Fish were limited to 24.1 percent (7-29) from the field.
The second period saw the Bucs start strong and then simply sustain their lead. They would finish with a 15-point win over the Sailfish.
Senior Hayley Fields led all players in scoring on the night as she posted 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting including 3-of-5 from beyond the arc. Ashley Dolberry added in 10 points and six rebounds while chipping in five assists.
Selethia Jackson led PBA with 10 rebounds.
With the end of the academic semester just around the corner, the Sailfish will have around 10 days off from game action as they will begin preparing to host a Pre-Christmas Tournament on Dec. 16-18 at the Rubin Arena.
