TAMPA, Fla.- Taking part in the second basketball matchup of the day between Palm Beach Atlantic University and the University of Tampa, the Sailfish men’s squad was unable to earn the split as they fell 76-47 in game two of the basketball double-header.
The PBA women’s team also took the fall against the Lady Spartans earlier in the day in a 67-57 defeat.
UT jumped out early on the Sailfish and never looked back. Now 11-4 on the season and battling each night in the fierce Sunshine State Conference season, UT took time out today to battle against the Fish on their home floor.
A bright spot for first-year head coach Terry Primm has been the play of junior Manny Lopez (San Juan, Puerto Rico) who continues to put up solid numbers as the main scoring option for the Fish. Lopez tallied 22 points against the Spartans on Saturday afternoon while also pulling down eight rebounds. The only other PBA player to break double-digits in the scoring column was fellow junior David Powell (Hollywood, Fla.) who finished with 12 points while just missing out on a double-double with a team-high total of nine rebounds.
The Spartans utilized a balanced overall attack that saw only two players reach double-figures but witnessed 12 players score at least two points. UT was led by Jeremy Black with 11 points and Jonathan Ball with 10 points.
The Fish will return home to West Palm Beach and look to regroup as they will take on Florida Southern College on Tuesday, January 29th in yet another double-header. Tip-off for the men’s contest will start at approximately 7 pm with the women’s game preceding.
