WILSON, N.C.- Heading into North Carolina one final time this season the Palm Beach Atlantic University men’s soccer team claimed their fourth straight victory on Saturday by defeating Barton College by a 3-0 final score to close out their regular season slate with a 10-7 record. Three different Sailfish players would score in the match including the 16th goal of the season by sophomore Kenny Hogg which turned out to be the game-winner.
Junior Jonathan Strunk went the distance in goal for PBA while the Evanston, Illinois native claimed his second shutout of the season as the strong Sailfish defense limited the Bulldogs to only five shots in each half.
Much like their home finale on Wednesday against Nova Southeastern University, the Sailfish offense would take its time in getting a goal on the scoreboard as they registered the match’s first score just before halftime.
Hogg received an assist from sophomore James Kaim just shy of the 43rd minute inside the box where the Scotland native turned and fired a shot inside the right post for a 1-0 PBA lead.
It wouldn’t be until the later stages of the second-half that the Fish would add on to their lead when freshman Michael Emert tallied his sixth goal of the season on a loose ball inside the box that allowed him to push his team’s advantage to 2-0.
Freshman Gustavo da Silva would allow the Blue and White to finish with a more comfortable final lead of 3-0 when he scored his second goal of the 2011 campaign in the 84th minute.
The Sailfish finished with 16 shots including nine in the first-half while Barton landed on top in corner kick tries with a 6-4 advantage.
Strunk would make three saves in goal for the Sailfish.
