NEW ORLEANS, La.- The latest United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) regional ranking has the Palm Beach Atlantic University women’s team moving up two spots from number six to number four in the NCAA South Region. The Lady Sailfish are coming off a solid performance last Saturday at the Southeast Cross Country Classic and will now prepare for the NCAA Regional race in two weeks in Tampa.
The Fish finished 10th out of 35 teams at the Southeast Classic in Rome, Georgia which presented the team with not only a strong and competitive field of runners but also an environment not unlike what they may see at their postseason races with such a large amount of competitors.
The team continues to rely on its youth with freshman Kourtney Sumner being the team’s top runner in most of its meets this season. Sumner is joined by fellow freshman Jessica Sexton to give the Fish another solid young contributor.
Juniors Faith Warren and Katherine Harvey have also been instrumental in the team taking steps toward being a top regional program. Danielle Kittell and Sarah Walsh, both veteran runners of the PBA program, also have contributed to the team’s success at each race this season.
Palm Beach Atlantic has the NCAA Regional in its sights when they will run on Saturday, November 5th.
