WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- Three first-half goals followed by two more in the second-half lifted the Palm Beach Atlantic University men’s soccer team to an easy 5-1 win over Clearwater Christian College on Monday morning at Magic Jack Field. Playing in a rare 11 am kickoff, the two teams battled amidst both cloud cover and sunshine on a beautiful morning for soccer.
Five different PBA players tallied goals in the win with sophomore James Kaim delivering the first in the 3rd minute with freshman AJ Black tallying what would be the game-winner in the 19th minute off a double-assist from Emert and Gabe Carneiro.
Both Carneiro and Emert would each add in one more assist while Emert scored in the 30th minute to give PBA the 3-0 lead.
CCC reserve John Woodhall got his team on the board in the 34th minute on a failed clearance in the box by the Sailfish defense that allowed Woodhall to neatly put in the loose ball for the Cougar’s lone goal.
Kenny Hogg collected his team-leading 15th goal of the season for PBA in the 53rd minute early in the second-half while Gustavo da Silva drilled a long strike for his first goal of the season to close out the scoring for PBA in the 83rd minute.
The Sailfish outshot the Cougars by a 25-5 tally in a matchup of the two defending NCCAA National Championship teams, the Sailfish in Division I and the Cougars in Division II.
Jonathan Strunk collected the win in goal for PBA as he played the first 77 minutes before sophomore Steven Bush played the final 13 minutes in goal while collecting one save.
The Fish will wrap up their 2011 home schedule on Wednesday, October 26th when they host Nova Southeastern University at 3 pm at Magic Jack Field.
