WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- In a day that began with three Palm Beach Atlantic University women’s soccer seniors honored in a pregame ceremony, the Sailfish made it a clean sweep of Chowan University after the PBA men’s team shutout their Hawks counterparts just a day earlier. The ladies team scored six times in the opening half on their way to a 7-0 win over the Hawks.

Playing a rare 10 am match on Saturday at Magic Jack Field, the two teams squared off amidst sunshine and cool South Florida temperatures as fans gathered for the final women’s soccer home match of the season.

The three seniors honored before kickoff were Michele Kappas, Alyssa DeMonte, and Katie Runyon with each of the three earning the starting nod in their final collegiate home match.

“I’m very happy with the way we executed our game plan and very proud of our seniors,” said head coach James Kryger . “We could not ask for a better last home game from Kappas, DeMonte and Runyon,”.

“We have played with tremendous passion of late and this morning was another great example of finishing the chances created from good wide service,” continued Kryger.

It would be freshman Marianne Harnes however who would get the scoring started as she scored the team’s first two goals while assisting on two more to cap her most impressive performance of the season.

Fellow freshman Moriah Zusi assisted the first Marianne Harnes goal in the 16th minute with a through ball and one touch from the Haroy, Norway native to put the Fish on top early. Harnes would connect on nearly the same sequence a few minutes later for a 2-0 PBA lead.

The Sailfish (6-7-1) wouldn’t score again until the 37th minute but it would begin a barrage of scoring near halftime intermission as Kappas collected a penalty kick goal followed by an Ashley Shoaf score on an assist from sophomore Andrea Jefferson in the 40th minute.

Karoline Harnes got in the mix less than two minutes later on a Shoaf helper as she flicked a pass that Karoline Harnes neatly put in the net for a 5-0 lead in the 42nd minute.

Another freshman, Tara McNab, scored the final goal before halftime on a Marianne Harnes assist that came from a long corner kick.

The second-half featured a less aggressive PBA attack that culminated with one goal, a second from Kappas on a assist from Marianne Harnes in the 83rd minute to give PBA the 7-0 final score.

Palm Beach Atlantic closed out the contest outshooting Chowan by a 28-2 final tally with 12 corner kicks. PBA was whistled for offsides 18 times.

Sophomore Allison Fox played 62 minutes in goal and made one save while junior Juliet Waller made her season debut in goal for the final 28 minutes.

The Fish will close out the 2011 campaign on the road by traveling to the University of West Alabama on Saturday, October 29th and then a matchup against the University of West Florida on Monday, October 31st.
