LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla.- Competing in their largest field of the season the Palm Beach Atlantic women’s cross country team managed an eighth place finish out of a total of 28 collegiate teams on Saturday at the Walt Disney World Invitational. Recently ranked fourth in the latest USTFCCCA regional poll, the Fish continue to make great strides under first year head coach Trish Butler.

The University of Tampa claimed the team title in the event with a score of 48 points with Florida Atlantic University in second place with 62 points. Tampa had four runners in the top-12 of the meet to claim the prestigious team title.

All teams had to deal with slow running conditions as heavy rains caused a muddy course which produced slower times across the board.

Rounding out the top-five in the meet were Drake University (3rd- 114 points), Florida Gulf Coast University (4th- 158 points) and Nova Southeastern University (5th- 193 points). The Sailfish claimed eighth place with 267 points while finishing ahead of regional competitors such as Florida Tech (10th), Saint Leo University (13th) and Rollins College (19th).

Freshman Kourtney Sumner finished as the top PBA runner with a 39th place individual finish and a time of 19:57 in a field of 269 female collegiate runners.

Junior Faith Warren wasn’t far behind Sumner’s team-leading total with a time of 20:00 even for a 45th place finish while freshman Jessica Sexton was in 51st place with a 20:08 final time in the women’s 5K.

Katherine Harvey posted a 20:30 time (68th) while Danielle Kittell was next with a 20:43 finishing time (81st). Sarah Walsh finished in a time of 23:09.

The team will be back to run another race this weekend by participating in the USF Black and Gold Challenge on Friday, October 14th at 6 pm.
