WINTER PARK, Fla.- Continuing their torrid stretch of late against some of the top competition in the NCAA South Region, the Palm Beach Atlantic University men’s soccer traveled north on Friday evening to take on No. 5-ranked Rollins College in a key regional battle at Barker Family Stadium. The Tars would tally a goal in each half against the Sailfish as they held off the PBA charge for a 2-0 shutout win.
Sophomore Steven Bush made his first career start in goal for PBA on the night and displayed a strong presence between the pipes as he squared off against a high-octane offense in RC. The Valrico, Florida native stopped ten shots on the night while the Tars rattled off a total of 22 shots, reaching double digits in both halves.
Rollins tallied the only score they would wind up needing in the 33rd minute as veteran Nick Sowers stole away a pass at the midfield and dribbled in for his fourth goal of the season as RC took the 1-0 lead into halftime.
Just eight minutes into the second-half the Tars (8-1) would extend their lead as Sowers found teammate Daniel Salazar for a one-timer to upper 90 that gave the home team a bit of a cushion heading into the remainder of the match.
Keneil Baker finished with six saves in goal for RC as the Tars would finish with a 22-8 shots advantage including a 10-2 mark in the second-half as they would opt to dig in to hold off any attempt at a late PBA comeback bid.
The Fish will hold steady the remainder of the weekend as they will begin preparations for their match on Wednesday, October 12th as they will travel to Barry University to battle the Bucs at 7 pm in Miami Shores, Florida.
