Box Score

FLORENCE, S.C.- The Palm Beach Atlantic University men’s soccer team claimed their third straight win on Saturday by securing a 4-1 victory over Francis Marion University in Florence, South Carolina. The Sailfish put four goals in the back of the net by four different players as the squad improves to 5-3 on the season as they approach an important upcoming stretch of tough contests.

Junior Gabe Carneiro got things started for PBA after a scoreless portion of the match through 25 minutes when a took on the FMU defense at the top of the box, made a quick move to his right and punished a shot into the back of the net for a 1-0 Sailfish lead.

Sophomore Evan Singlar tallied his second goal of the season later in the half just shy of intermission when he headed home a Joel Julio free kick to give the Sailfish a more comfortable 2-0 lead.

The beginning of the second-half produced similar results as the first stages of the first-half as neither team would score despite some solid opportunities.

Kenny Hogg finally broke through for PBA just shy of the 70th minute when Carneiro and Michael Emert found the Sailfish striker for his 10th goal of the season.

Kevin Ireland completed the PBA scoring in the 72nd minute when he combined with sophomore James Kaim for a give-and-go that saw the Scotland native put home the fourth goal of the game for PBA.

FMU ended their scoring drought in the 77th minute on a George Kartsimaris score that ended PBA’s attempt at a shutout. Starting goalkeeper Jonathan Strunk played the first 76 minutes in goal before being replaced by sophomore Steven Bush who made an initial stop on a shot by FMU’s Igor Souza but was unable to control the rebound which allowed Kartsimaris to push in the goal.

Strunk finished with four saves while Bush made one in goal as the tandem combined for the victory.

The Sailfish finished the contest with a 17-11 advantage in shots while also managing a corner kick lead of 8-2.

The Fish will continue to compete on the road over the next few weeks with a number of top competitors filling their schedule. Up next is slated to be a matchup with Saint Leo University on Tuesday, October 4th followed by a Friday, October 7th date with #1-ranked Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida. Both matches will kickoff at 7 pm.
