Women's Tennis Competes in Doubles Action on Friday at Panther Invitational

MELBOURNE, Fla.- Wrapping up a short fall season this weekend, the Palm Beach Atlantic University men’s and women’s tennis teams competed at the Panther Invitational on the campus of Florida Tech. The two teams began competition on Friday afternoon by competing in doubles before preparing for singles action on Saturday and Sunday.

Joining the host FIT Panthers and the Sailfish in the field included Eckerd College and Georgia Southwestern University.

In Flight A action on the women’s side it was PBA’s Victoria Baca and Natalia Trotter who would be charged with leading the way for the Sailfish. The top duo for the Fish dropped their first match by a score of 8-2 to the tandem of Huba and Huba of FIT before defeating Eckerd’s Fridrik/Jenks by an 8-4 final.

Veena Vasquez and Jessica Wharton provided a similar fate with an 8-6 loss to FIT’s Grief and Kiester but then stormed back to take on Hawn and Naula of Eckerd for an 8-4 win.

Maria Jimenez and Liddy Robinson were in action as well with a loss to Price/Close of Florida Tech before Robinson teamed with Vilja Vahatalo in a loss to Bullock/Trapp of Eckerd by an 8-5 score.

The Fish will now turn their focus to singles play on Saturday.
