TITUSVILLE, Fla.- Running in their second meet of the season after a solid showing last Saturday at the UF Mountain Dew Classic, the Palm Beach Atlantic University women’s cross country team stepped it up again on Friday by finishing third at the FLRunners.com Invitational presented by Nike. The Fish finished third among a seven-team field at the Chain of Lakes Park with the only two teams finishing ahead of them coming from the NCAA Division I ranks.

The Sailfish justified their recent five spot jump in the USTFCCCA regional rankings by collecting 103 points for third place, narrowly ahead of fourth place finisher and fellow NCAA South Region representative Saint Leo University with 105 points.

The University of North Florida would claim the team title with 26 points as they claimed three runners within the top five finishers and five runners within the top 10. Jacksonville University finished in second place with 38 points including the medalist winner of junior Joane Pierre with a time of 17:35.

For the second straight week it would be junior Faith Warren who would cross the finish line first for PBA as she collected a 16th overall finish with a 5,000 meter time of 19:28. Freshman teammate Kourtney Sumner came right behind Warren with a 17th place finish with a posted time of 19:38.

Another freshman, Jessica Sexton, was PBA’s third finisher with a time of 19:56 to finish in the top-25 as she crossed the finish line in 21st place.

Junior Katherine Harvey was the fourth PBA finisher at 20:30 followed closely behind by Danielle Kittell at 20:35. Sarah Walsh finished 49th in the race with a time of 23:20.

All-American Meghan Gilmore did not compete in the race due to injury.

After Saint Leo’s fourth place finish the remainder of the field included Stetson University (147 points), Rollins College (149 points), and Warner University (170 points).
