PBA Men's Tennis Gets the Season Started at Valdosta State

VALDOSTA, Ga.- The Palm Beach Atlantic University men’s and women’s tennis teams got their season started on Thursday afternoon at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) South Regional held at Valdosta State University with mixed results. The annual tournament paired PBA players, both in singles and in doubles, against some of the best competition in the NCAA Division II ranks.
The Fish sent out a variety of returning veterans and newcomers as they hope to continue to build on recent years of success within the NCAA South Region.
Newcomers Mick Lyons and Nicholas Giuseppe were paired together for the first time in their collegiate careers and were defeated in doubles action by an 8-2 score. Returning leaders Krasimir Atanasov and Luke Bolanos were awarded a first round by as the #3 overall seed then defeated the team of Morkrzycki and Constamangna from Barry University by an 8-3 final to move on.
Atanasov was selected as the #13 overall seed in singles but was upset in the first round by Florida Southern College’s Jorge Guitirez 4-6, 7-5, 9-11. Bolanos had the unfortunate pairing of facing against #1 overall seed from Lynn University Willie Wolfer and was defeated 1-6, 0-6.
Giuseppe defeated Stephen Fellman of Eckerd College to earn his first collegiate singles win as he cruised to 6-4, 6-4 victories to remain alive in the main draw.
Lyons earned a first round win over Florida Tech’s Barry Dylewski 6-4, 1-6, 10-5 but then was upended in the second round by #11 seed Marco Morkrzyci from Barry by a 1-6, 4-6 showing.
