ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla.- After a disappointing overtime defeat at the hands of Limestone College on Friday evening the Palm Beach Atlantic University women’s soccer team bounced back against Catawba College on Saturday afternoon as they tallied a 2-1 win on day two of the Flagler College Kickoff Classic. Senior Katie Runyon assisted on the team’s first goal then tallied the game-winner in the second-half as PBA shutout Catawba in the second-half for the team’s first win of the season.

Head coach James Kryger and his staff had the team focused and ready after the team dropped a 1-0 contest the night before when Limestone earned the win on a golden goal just shy of the 99th minute of action.

In fact it wouldn’t take long for the Sailfish (1-1) to regain their confidence as Runyon found sophomore Shelby Wells on a cross to the near post that Wells neatly put in for a 1-0 PBA lead in the 8th minute of the contest.

The Indians (0-2) would have an answer for the Sailfish score but it would take until the 18th minute when Alyssa Retundie cashed in on a rebound to the tie the score at 1-1.

Both teams would head into the lockeroom at halftime tied with Catawba holding the slight edge in shots in the first-half by a 6-5 tally.

The game winner from Runyon would come one second shy of the 63rd minute as she made good on a deflection after a shot from Andrea Jefferson was blocked.

Now blessed with a lead the team would hold off the Indians’ attempts at an equalizer as CC attempted 12 second-half shots only to come up empty.

Sophomore goalkeeper Allison Fox tended net for PBA and produced six saves in the win. Lindsay Webster took the loss in net for Catawba as she made two saves in addition to her two goals allowed.

The Fish will be off from action on Sunday but will continue their early season pace by traveling to Clayton State University in Morrow, Georgia for a Labor Day showdown beginning at 1 pm.
