WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- Welcoming in Barry University on Wednesday night at the Rubin Arena, the Palm Beach Atlantic University men’s basketball team never quite got things going in the right direction as the Buccaneers handed the Sailfish their third consecutive defeat at home.
Falling behind early, PBA was unable to slow down the attack of the Buccaneers (2-4) as they cruised to a 79-51 victory over the Sailfish.
Limited to only to a 20.7% (6-29) shooting performance in the first-half, PBA struggled to find their mark, especially from beyond the arc as they connected on only two-of-ten attempts from long-range. On the flip side, the Bucs put forth a respectable 38.2% shooting percentage (13-34) in the first period of play which propelled them to an even more successful second-half of 69.7% (16-23).
The Bucs were once again led by the sensational play of guard Karega Tucker who posted a career-high 23 points on 10-of-13 shots from the field. Averaging just over 14 points per contest entering Wednesday night, Tucker consistently put himself in position for easy baskets which resulted ample scoring opportunities for the Red and Black.
Forward Chad Bishop also put forth a solid effort against the Fish as he posted 16 points while grabbing a team-high nine boards.
PBA featured the high-scoring efforts of junior Manny Lopez (San Juan, Puerto Rico) as the 6’5” forward matched his season average of 14 points while adding in three rebounds. Sophomore Anthony Gugino (N. Palm Beach, Fla.) collected team-high honors in rebounds with eight to go along with seven points.
Up next the schedule for Palm Beach Atlantic (1-4) is a home date with the University of Tampa Spartans which will take place on Saturday, December 1st at 7:00 p.m. in the Rubin Arena.
