SKILLMAN, N.J.- For the first time in school history the Palm Beach Atlantic University men’s tennis team has been named to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic team as they were selected as one of 11 institutions within the NCAA Division II ranks to earn such a distinction. Krasimir Atanasov, the Sailfish No. 1 singles player for the past three seasons also was named a ITA Scholar-Athlete for his individual work in the classroom.
The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). All eligible student-athletes whose names appear on the NCAA/NAIA/NJCAA/CA JUCO eligibility form and have competed in one or more varsity matches must average into the GPA for the current academic year (including fall 2010 and spring 2011).
Palm Beach Atlantic was one of four institutions within the always competitive NCAA South Region who were named to the squad as they were joined by the University of Alabama-Huntsville, Florida Southern College, Ouachita Baptist College, and Saint Leo University.
A native of Sofia, Bulgaria, Atanasov has proven to excel in both the classroom and the court as he has been named to several postseason listings for his strong work on and off the court.
Led by head coach Chi Ly, the Sailfish will report to school in late August with a fall season preparing them for the rigors of the South Region during their official championship season during the spring in 2012.
