SKILLMAN, N.J.- The Palm Beach Atlantic University women’s tennis team was honored this week by being named to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic team listing as one of 32 NCAA Division II institutions to be recognized. The Sailfish also saw seven individual players named to the prestigious listing as well as members of the ITA All-Scholar Athletes squad. Palm Beach Atlantic’s seven selections were the second most individual selections from one team in the country.
The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). All eligible student-athletes whose names appear on the NCAA/NAIA/NJCAA/CA JUCO eligibility form and have competed in one or more varsity matches must average into the GPA for the current academic year (including fall 2010 and spring 2011).
Only Rockhurst University had more individual selections than Palm Beach Atlantic who is under the direction of head coach Chi Ly.
Those Sailfish student-athletes that were named to the All-Scholar Athletes squad include Amber Braaten, Krishna Domenech, Maria Jimenez, Jordan Ittersagen, Katie Livesay, Natalia Trotter, Vuokko Vahatalo, and Jessica Wharton.
This is the second time that Braaten, Trotter, and Ittersagen had been honored as ITA Scholar-Athletes after earning the distinction last year.
