HOLLY, Mich.- Although the season ended months ago the Palm Beach Atlantic University women’s soccer team was still recently honored by the Independent Collegiate Athletic Association (ICAA) for its outstanding work during the 2010 season by having seven players and head coach James Kryger honored by the ICAA.

The ICAA is composed of Chowan University, North Greenville University, Oakland City University, PBA, Urbana University, and Washington Adventist University, all NCAA Division II Independent institutions competing in women’s soccer.

Senior Angie Kuhn was named the ICAA Offensive Player of the Year while freshman goalkeeper Allison Fox took home two honors of Co-Defensive Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year. Third-year head coach James Kryger was selected as the ICAA Coach of the Year after leading his team to a 14-5-2 record and a national runner-up finish at the NCCAA National Tournament.

Joining Kuhn and Fox on the All-ICAA listing was sophomore Ashley Shoaf, freshman Andrea Jefferson, sophomore Courtney Calhoun, junior Katie Runyon and senior Alex Regin. Sophomores Juliet Waller and Jennie Weil were selected as All-ICAA Honorable Mention.

Kuhn closed out her fantastic four-year playing career in 2010 by registering a school-record of 27 goals while adding in nine assists for 63 total points in 20 matches. The North Fort Myers, Florida native produced four game winning goals on the season.

Setting up Kuhn on numerous goals was Shoaf who tallied eight assists and eight goals while starting all 20 contests on the season. The Norfolk, Virginia product tallied three game-winners of her own while finishing second on the team with 24 points.

Another young player who would shine in 2010 was freshman Andrea Jefferson who managed four goals and eight assists while starting 20 games total for the season. Jefferson made a great impact as a freshman, much in the same way that Fox did as the team’s starting freshman goalkeeper. Fox started all 21 games in between the pipes for PBA and produced a goals against average of 1.21 goals per game. She would make 89 saves while posting nine shutouts in leading the team to a 14-win season.

A transfer from Texas Christian University and in her first season with the team, Katie Runyon provided the Sailfish with an athletic midfielder with the ability to score or distribute. She tallied one goal on the year while adding in six assists for a total of 19 points.

Courtney Calhoun was another important piece to the Sailfish defense as she finished the 2010 season with over 1,500 minutes played while providing ball control and sound positioning alongside teammate Alex Regin who proved to be a great asset throughout her Sailfish career. Regin finished the 2011 season as a 21 game starter while chipping in a goal and three assists while playing over 1,800 total minutes.

The Sailfish women’s soccer team will be coming together in mid-August for their 2011 preseason with strong hopes of having another solid season.
