GREENVILLE, S.C.- The Palm Beach Atlantic University women’s tennis team concluded a solid campaign in 2011 by making another trip to the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) National Championship while finishing as the tournament’s runner-up. After the tournament, three Sailfish student-athletes were named to the NCCAA All-American listing including Victoria Baca, Vuokko Vahatalo, and Natalia Trotter.
A transfer from the University of Detroit-Mercy, Baca stepped in right away to the No. 1 singles position for head coach Chi Ly and produced a solid first season competing at the NCAA Division II level. A native of Ecuador, Baca was honored as a member of the NCCAA All-American 1st-Team in singles while joining teammate Trotter on the All-American 2nd-Team for doubles.
Vahatalo appeared on the NCCAA All-American 2nd-Team in singles in her first season with the team while competing as a graduate student after previously competing at Lander University.
Joining the trio in the NCCAA All-American listing was the naming of senior Katie Livesay as a NCCAA Scholar-Athlete for her good work in the classroom. Livesay also headlined a group of three PBA student-athletes who were selected for the Ministry Athlete award as Trotter and senior Krishna Domenech also were selected as recipients of the award which honors those who give of their time in a ministry capacity.
