GREENVILLE, S.C.- Wrapping what has been a fantastic all-around career wearing a Sailfish men’s tennis uniform, Krasimir Atanasov was named to the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) All-American 1st-Team in singles while being joined by teammate Luke Bolanos as a member of the NCCAA All-American 1st-Team in doubles. Bastian Guenther was named to the listing’s All-American 2nd-Team in singles as well.
Now an All-American selection in each of his three seasons donning the Blue and White, Atanasov concludes his collegiate tennis career as one of the most decorated and highly-ranked individuals in PBA Athletics history. His rise amongst the always-challenging NCAA South Region has led him to the highest individual ranking in program history earlier this season while once again leading the team back to the NCCAA Championship match.
After leading the team to a NCCAA National Championhip in 2010, Atanasov and his team came up just short this time around as they were the eventual runner-up to North Greenville University in the tournament’s final match.
Since arriving to campus from Debary, Florida in the fall of 2008, Bolanos has teamed with Atanasov to produce one of the toughest doubles tandems in the region. This season’s NCCAA All-American recognition for the pairing of Atanasov and Bolanos is the third in as many seasons.
Guenther proved to be a valued addition to the team this season as he completed his athletic eligibility as a graduate student after competing previous years for Lincoln Memorial University. Guenther provided the team with a solid No. 2 singles player behind Atanasov and for his efforts he was named to the NCCAA All-American 2nd-Team.
Another award that Sailfish players have been consistently honored for during the coaching tenure of head coach Chi Ly has been the Ministry Athletes award. Four of the six recipients of this off-court honor were Sailfish players as Atanasov and Bolanos were joined in the listing by Alex Minicozzi and Jonathan Kalis. King College’s Seth Hale and Nathan Vanderhoof of Central Christian College were also selected.
Atanasov was also selected to the NCCAA Scholar-Athlete listing for his outstanding academic achievements.
