TAMPA, Fla.- Three Palm Beach Atlantic pitchers combined on a 8-6 come from behind win on Friday night at the University of Tampa Baseball Field as the Sailfish took down the No. 12 ranked Spartans to open up a three-game series on the UT campus. Both teams put up runs early on the scoreboard while the Sailfish bullpen was able to hold on to the late lead as they improve to 26-22. Tampa drops to 30-15.

Logan Thomas would go six innings for the Fish on the mound and despite a rough start that saw UT score three runs in the first inning and lead 6-4 after four innings of play.

The biggest play of the game came from the bat of Sailfish freshman Brooks Fleming  as the Blue and White trailed still 6-4 in the top of the eighth inning. Fleming would drill a two-out bases-loaded single into centerfield where newly-inserted UT centerfielder Connor Obrochta misplayed the hard liner as the ball got past him to the wall for a bases-clearing play that gave PBA a 7-6 lead.

Tampa opted to send in centerfielder Cody Davis in from the outfield to try and close out the eighth inning after reliever Tim Kiley walked Justin Sizemore and Jorge Chavarria to load the bases after Taylor Kaprive had been hit by a pitch. Brooks smoked a 2-0 fastball into centerfield as he reached third-base after the miscue by Obrochta.

PBA added an insurance run in the top of the ninth as Kaprive came through with a sacrifice fly to plate Travis Murray.

After Thomas tossed the first six innings, lefties Kenny Frosch (5-0) and Alejandro De Moya would close out the final three innings as second-year head coach Gary Carter mixed and matched his bullpen against the UT lineup.

Frosch retired all four of the batters he faced to earn the win while De Moya collected his sixth save by tossing the final 1.2 of shutout ball including three strikeouts. UT made two quick outs in the ninth inning before a walk and hit batsman by De Moya. The Domincan born lefty would close things out in dramatic fashion however by getting pinch-hitter Heath Pritchard on a high fastball to end the game.

The Sailfish struck first in the game by posting three straight two-out hits in the top of the first inning as Yogi Gunther delivered a RBI double that plated Luis Mejia in the first.

Tampa responded with three runs in their half of the first including a two-run homer from Taylor Wrenn.

The Fish put up a two-spot in the second inning to draw even at 3-3 as Nick Natale and Matt Civetti started the inning with back-to-back doubles while Jordan Carter pulled off the rare feat of a slash hit after initially squaring around to bunt that plated Civetti.

UT took a 4-3 lead in the third inning on a solo homer by UT catcher Adam Pendleton then Mejia responded with a RBI single in the top of the fourth inning to briefly tie the game.

The Sailfish pounded out 13 total hits in the game including two hits each for their 3-4-5 hitters of Mejia, Murray, and Gunther. Civetti and Carter each registered two hits each as well.
