MIAMI SHORES, Fla.- Feinbloom Field continues to be a place of disappointment for the Palm Beach Atlantic University baseball team as the Barry University Buccaneers managed another victory over the Fish in their home confines on Tuesday evening as they prevailed 8-6. A five run fifth inning for the Bucs including the big blow in a grand slam from BU right-fielder Lyndon Coleman helped spark the Barry offense as they held off a late comeback effort from the Fish for their second win in as many tries in 2011.

With junior right-hander Jeremiah Cothiere (2-1) cruising merrily along in the bottom of the fifth having only allowed one hit, the Bucs struck for five runs in the inning thanks to a fielding error and a mental error later in the frame on a defensive bunt coverage that loaded the bases with nobody out.

Coleman then struck the first pitch he saw from Cothiere over the left-field fence for a grand slam homer deep into the Miami Shores night. Another run came home to score later in the inning on a solo homerun from first-baseman Dean Green.

Cothiere would settle back in as the BU lead was cut to 5-3 after PBA scored a run in the top of the sixth inning on an RBI groundout from Johnny Cole and two more in the top of the eighth inning as Cole added in another RBI groundout and Yogi Gunther delivered a run-scoring single.

Barry would extend their lead in the bottom of the eighth however as Green doubled home a run off Cothiere and then PBA reliever Byron Skinner would run into some rare wildness that resulted in another run coming in to score. Another unearned run came in later in the inning due to a PBA fielding error as BU held on to the 8-3 lead.

A three-run ninth inning would draw the Sailfish closer as Matt Civetti led off the inning with a long homerun to left-centerfield and another run came in on a Luis Mejia RBI single but the Bucs would be able to hold on for the 8-6 win.

During head coach Gary Carter’s two seasons on the bench for the Sailfish, the Blue and White have lost by one or two runs in each of their four games played at Feinbloom Field.

Cothiere took his first loss of the season as he drops to 2-1 while allowing seven runs (four earned) in seven plus innings while striking out six and walking only one.

Jordan Wellander tossed seven innings for the Bucs as he improves to 1-1 on the season after allowing seven hits and one earned run, striking out seven batters.

Nick Natale was joined by Mejia and Gunther who each registered three hits in the game while Natale scored two runs. Jorge Chavarria finished 2-for-5 while Civetti added in two hits including his homerun.

Green finished 3-for-4 for the Buccaneers as the only BU player to have a multi-hit game.

The Fish will be off from game action until Friday, March 25th when they take on Lynn University at 6 pm at the Santaluces Complex. The two teams will battle in a double-header in Boca Raton on Saturday.
