WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- In a battle of closely ranked NCAA South Region teams, the #44-ranked Saint Leo University men’s tennis team proved superior over Palm Beach Atlantic’s #41-ranked squad as the Lions prevailed on Saturday afternoon by an 8-1 final tally. The loss drops the Sailfish to 10-7 on the season.
Junior Krasimir Atanasov was the only Sailfish player to tally a win in the match as he posted an exciting 6-4, 6-7 (6), 10-8 win at #1-singles over Nicholson-Lewis.
The Lions would earn a few close wins at #1 and #2-doubles that kept the Fish from striking an early lead as Atanasov and partner Luke Bolanos were tripped up 8-5 at the top of doubles completion while Bastian Guenther and Alex Minicozzi were narrowly defeated at #2-doubles by a 9-8 (3) score.
After the Lions closed out the doubles sweep it wouldn’t be long before they would take hold of the match from there on out as each of their singles players registered wins in two sets.
The Sailfish will go outside the region for their next match as they will host Tufts University on Monday, March 21st for a 3 pm showdown at Gaines Park.
