HILTON HEAD, S.C.- With their Spring Break trip to Hilton Head, South Carolina winding down, the Palm Beach Atlantic University women’s tennis team came away with a narrow win on Thursday over the likes of Slippery Rock University. Senior Krishna Domenech dropped the opening set of the final singles portion of the match at #6-singles but then fought back for a three-set win as the Fish came away with a 5-4 win over the #23-nationally ranked opponent.
The match began with PBA continuing their winning ways this week as Victoria Baca and Natalia Trotter earned an 8-4 win at #1-doubles followed by Jessica Wharton and Jordan Ittersagen also winning at #2-doubles by an 8-6 tally. SRU would stay close however by taking the #3-doubles in a close one over Vuokko Vahatalo and Katie Livesay as their opponent won 9-8 (8) in the tie-breaker.
Still leading 2-1 after doubles, Baca and Vahatalo would be defeated at the top of singles, both in three sets while Trotter got things back even for PBA at #3-singles with a three-set victory of her own.
Now 3-3, Wharton came through with a dramatic three-set win at #4-singles only to see SRU take #5-singles in two sets to set up the all-important final set.
Despite moving courts in the middle of the match and dropping the first set, Domenech showed her strength as she held on for the three-set victory and an important win for PBA over SRU.
The match began around 6 pm because of rain and didn’t end until around 11:30 pm.
Official scores and match ups will be posted as it becomes available.
