BABSON PARK, Fla.- Sailfish junior catcher Travis Murray certainly appears to have a knack for the spotlight. After a game-winning double on Saturday followed by a defensive miscue in the ninth inning of Tuesday night’s loss, Murray once again played the hero on Wednesday as he blasted his first homerun of the spring in the top of the tenth inning with two outs to help the Palm Beach Atlantic baseball team secure a 7-5 win over Webber International University.

With freshman reliever Jimmy Kelly cruising along, the Sailfish appeared as if they would wrap up their 13th victory of the season with little trouble as they entered the bottom of the ninth with a 5-3 lead. The Warriors (14-12) who had won 10 of their previous 12 ballgames, would have different plans.

With two outs and a runner at second-base, the Warriors would rattle off back-to-back run-scoring singles from the likes of Billy Farrell and Travis Noland to tie the score at 5-5. PBA left-hander Kenny Frosch would enter the game for the second consecutive day and retire the final batter of the inning.

A two-out walk to freshman Johnny Cole set the stage for Murray who launched a Derek Self offering over the right-centerfield fence for the 7-5 Sailfish lead.

Frosch would allow a leadoff single in the bottom of the tenth but stranded the runner and came away with his second win of the season.

Palm Beach Atlantic controlled the early portion of the game as they staked sophomore starter Jonathan Kies to a 5-2 lead through the first four innings.

Murray began the scoring with a single in the second inning followed by another single from PBA designated-hitter Justin Sizemore. A wild-pitch would bring home Michael Lyon who served as the courtesy-runner for Murray, the Sailfish catcher.

After the Warriors tied things up in the bottom of the second inning with a run of their own, the Fish put on a two-spot in the top of the third inning as Murray delivered a two-run double to score pinch-runner Luis Mejia and Jorge Chavarria who had also doubled earlier in the inning.

Nick Natale added a two-run double of his own in the top of the fourth inning as PBA led 5-2.

WIU would once again get to Kies in the fifth inning as two walks would end the day of the Sailfish lefty has he handed the ball on to Kelly after a 4.2 inning stint. Tripp Merrell promptly greeted Kelly with a run-scoring single as the Warriors cut into the Sailfish lead at 5-3.

Both bullpens would put up zeroes the rest of the way until WIU’s ninth inning rally.

Kelly finished with a solid relief outing of four innings pitched with five hits and two runs allowed.

Murray led all hitters on the night with his 3-for-5 showing at the plate including four RBI’s and one run scored.

Farrell finished 3-for-4 with a pair of runs scored to aid the WIU lineup.

Continuing their busy week of action, the Sailfish will host Nyack College on Thursday, March 10th at Dave Manzo Field. First-pitch is scheduled for 6 pm with a live broadcast provided by the Sailfish Sports Network.
