WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- For the second time this week the Palm Beach Atlantic University men’s tennis team was narrowly defeated by a member of the Sun Conference. After falling 5-4 to Northwood University on Tuesday, the Sailfish were defeated 5-4 again on Thursday when they hosted St. Thomas University at Gaines Park. The loss drops PBA to 2-3 on the season.
After taking the first two doubles portions of the match by the scores of 8-4 each, the Fish came just short in sweeping doubles action when Eric Wade and Evan Sahlman were defeated 9-7 in the third stretch.
Hopeful for even better results in singles, the Bobcats and Sailfish split the top four in singles as Bastian Guenther (6-2, 3-6, 6-1) and Alex Minicozzi (6-1, 0-6, 6-2) both earned wins at #2 and #4-singles respectively.
Still leading 4-3, Palm Beach Atlantic would not be able to secure the final win they needed for the match victory as Jonathan Kalis was defeated 6-1, 7-5 at #5-singles and Wade took a loss 6-1, 6-0 at #6-singles.
Looking to turn around a busy week, the Fish will battle in a pair of matches on Friday, February 25th at a neutral site in Kissimmee, Florida. PBA will battle Concordia University at 1 pm and then take on Davenport University at 6:30 pm.
